Biography
Manny Ortiz has been serving New Mexico in both the public and private sectors for over three decades. Armed with inventiveness and experience, Manny has grown his own accounting, Manny Ortiz, PC, which is dedicated to helping businesses throughout the state thrive with proper financial and resource management. Through consultations, negotiations, and resolving problems with taxation and other management issues, Manny has been able to help New Mexico businesses achieve profitability and growth.
Currently, Manny is serving Bernalillo County as the County Investment Officer. With over 7 years experience working within the Bernalillo County Treasurer’s office, Manny gained firsthand knowledge and understanding of duties and responsibilities of the Bernalillo County Treasurer. As a successful County Investment Officer, Manny aggressively keeps current on statutes to update County investment policies and how statues and policies affect the public.
“Dear to my heart are the many nonprofit organizations I serve,” says Manny. With a positive eye to the future, he continues serving the community as the Director for the New Mexico Business Resource Center, the Volunteer Income Tax Program (VITA); a program that partners with the IRS in order to offer free income tax service to low income families. Approximately 3,500 returns are prepared annually through the VITA program.
Manny has continued his community service throughout his career, having served on the following Boards: NM Organic Commission, Indian Pueblo Cultural Center, Albuquerque Capital, and the Private Industry Council.
As current Treasurer of the Loan Fund and as a past member of the Albuquerque Hispano Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors, Manny continues to emphasize his commitment to teamwork, integrity and an honest work ethic.
Serving as an IRS Internal Revenue Agent, 1965 – 1971, Manny developed in-depth insight into a broad spectrum of Tax law, accounting and investigation techniques. Beginning in 1971, Manny joined the Small Business Administration with duties ranging from loan servicing to counseling potential small business owners on how to build a successful small business. In 1979 Manny left the Small Business Administration to pursue a small business ownership career.
